Zoetropes‘Zoetrope’ comes from the Greek words ‘zoe’ and ‘trope’, which mean ‘life’ and ‘turn’, and when combined are said to have the meaning ‘wheel of life’.
A Zoetrope creates the appearance of a moving picture, as the small images are viewed quickly through the slits in the cylindrical image. Invented by William George Horner, in 1934, went on to influence many other inventors and photographers, later leading the way into the creation of the moving image and cinema. |
